Tutto ebbe inizio nel 1996, in Bogotà, quando Jorge Oleas, chitarrista leader e direttore musicale del complesso, che stava portando avanti i suoi studi universitari, considerò che non poteva dedicarsi in maniera completa al suo progetto, per questo fece ritorno a casa sua in Calì e, insieme a suo fratello Adrian, iniziò ciò che chiamano il progetto della loro vita. Inizialmente, il nome della band era “Lord Messiah”, e con questo iniziarono a comporre le prime canzoni. Le prime composizioni, influenzate da band quali Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth e Helloween, erano molto orientate verso l'Heavy. Furono conosciuti come Lord Messiah fino l'anno 2000, quando iniziarono un nuovo periodo di composizioni influenzate da band classiche di Progress, come Yes, Rush, Kansas e King Crimson. Tra queste influenze progressive, esistevano band, più attuali, come Dream Theater, Symphony x, Cacophony, Stratovarius, e tante altre. Da quel momento la band fu conosciuta come DARK EMPIRE.

It all began back in Bogotá in 1996 when Jorge Oleas, lead guitarist and musical director of the group was doing his college studies. When he realized he couldn't comit a 100 percent to this project, he returned to his home in Cali and with his brother Adrian Oleas they gived birth to what they call the most important project of their lifes. In those early stages the band was calle d "Lord Messiah". Thanks to the influence from bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Helloween and others they began to write and compose their first songs, these were very epic-heavy influinciated. They continued to be known as "Lord Messiah" until the year 2000 when the initiated another songwirting stage with influences from classic progressive bands such as Yes, Rush , Kansas and King Crimson. In addition to this wave of progressive influences they were more actual bands like Dream Theater, Symphony X, cacophony, Stratovarius and many others. From here this band is DARKEMPIRE.

Le canzoni delle quali si compone l'album del debutto, posseggono un magnetismo incredibile, catturano dal primo momento in cui ascolti le chitarre innovative, insieme a ricercati arrangiamenti delle tastiere, linee soavi ma complete nel basso, lo stile lirico operistico del vocalist e ritmi complessi di batteria. Questa è la combinazione perfetta che ti porta a muovere la testa senza fermarti fino alla fine del cd. La struttura delle canzoni è molto interessante, dato che ti portano a varie latitudini. Grazie alla diversità dei ritmi, sempre troverai diversi aspetti e scoprirai dettagli nuovi dei quali non ti eri reso conto l'ultima volta in cui hai ascoltato l'album. Le parole, sono cariche di una gran dose di realismo tragico, ispirate nella sua maggioranza, nei dintorni politici e sociali del loro paese, e avvolgono gli spettatori, nella storia raccontata in canzoni come “No way to escape” dove si può sperimentare la disperazione della persecuzione, canzoni deliranti come “Tormentor”. L'esperienza si estende anche a ballate come “Beggars”, che incita a ritrovarsi coi sentimenti smarriti, con lo splendido impegno canoro di Carlos Montes e il suo stile operistico che aggiunge ancora valore allo stile di quest'impressionante gruppo colombiano.

The tracks that are part of their debut album have an incredible magnetism, they capture you from the very first moment you hear their, sorpresive, breath taking guitar riffs in combination with the sofisticated keyboard arrangements, the smooth but complete bass lines, an operatic lyric stile from the singer and the hard-to-follow drum rhythms, this is the perfect combination that makes you wan to start banging your head away and without stoping until the record stops. The structures of the songs are more than interesting because they take you to different latitudes due to the variety in the rhythms you will always find different aspects and you'll discover a few new details you didn't catch the last time you listened to the album. The lyrics are loaded with a great dose of tragic realism inspired mostly in the sotial political enviroment of their country that involve the listeneres in the story told in songs such as "No Way To Escape" where the listeners can experience the despair of the chase, in ravaging songs as "Tormentor", also the experience is extended to powerballads like "beggars" that make you reunite with long lost feelings, with the splendid performance of Carlos Montes with his operatic cut adds more style to this amazing colombian group.
